This booklet began as an attempt to translate Baudelaire's Petits Poèmes en Prose into modern English and ended as a series of prose poems about Glasgow, in something of the spirit (though not of course the genius) of Baudelaire. I set myself the 'rules' that every incident or scene recorded should be one I had experienced myself and that I would try as far as possible (and unlike Baudelaire) to record rather than comment in any judgmental way.
